Massie Being Sassy
Hello there again readers and welcome back to Coffee Break Liberty, a blog where we tackle books, news and many other things under the sun where liberty is a guiding principle. If this is your first time here we would like to extend a special warm welcome to you and hope you enjoy yourself while here.
We all know about the COVID19 crisis right now. It’s everywhere and impacting everyone’s lives. Human rights are being ignored now while governments are threatening the use of violence against people if they leave their homes. In Rhode Island now the state police are stopping all cars with New York plates trying to find out what they are doing in their state and demanding they self quarantine. In El Paso TX, if you are caught outside your house for any other reason than an essential task, you face a $1000 fine. Our right to assemble in most states has now been limited to just 2 people. Additionally many state and local governments are closing gun stores thus infringing on our right to defend ourselves.
All the while in the midst of all this chaos of course the government won’t even abide by the rules it has written for itself. In the attempt to cram through a $2 trillion stimulus package there was one hold out… one representative that demanded the vote be conducted as per the constitution. That man’s name is Thomas Massie, a representative from Kentucky. The congressman wanted there to be more debate over the bill and for the vote to be recorded rather than an unrecorded vote. He wanted people to actually attach their names to this monstrosity. It would have taken a bit longer sure but it would have been the correct way to do it, the bill still would have passed and most certainly it would have passed that evening if not early in the morning shortly after midnight. And what does Massie get for wanting to follow the procedure outlined by the constitution? Well John Kerry calls him and asshole, Rep. King says he has blood on his hands and President Trump calls him a third rate congressman and says he should be kicked out of the GOP. Here is the thing though, Massie was the ONLY one brave enough to stand up to this insane stimulus package. When the math is done every American now has taken on an additional $17,000 worth of national debt. The only one wanting to do things the right way and have an actual debate on this is bashed by only two groups of people though, politicians and those in the media. Once again showing the American public who really cares for them. Americans aren’t worried about a bill taking a bit longer but rather they want a bill that will help. You will be hard pressed to find any American, that reads granted, that is truly upset with what Massie was trying to do. Yet those that tell us they care have again proven they don’t and will attack those that don’t fall into line. Massie is one of the best congressmen in DC, we should all recognize that and he is also one of the few that tries his darnedest to abide by the constitution.
In a crisis our rights don’t go away. These are human rights and are not negotiable. The constitution isn’t just a suggestion it still is the law of the land. The government and government officials are bound to it, heck most take oaths stating that they will uphold the constitution. We cannot lose our nerve or our honor due to an illness.
